The Pier 7 roof, five years on

Tidehouse was finished in 2021, and the standing-seam copper roof was always meant to weather in place. Five years on, the south-facing slopes have moved from bright copper to a streaked brown, while the north-facing slopes are still mostly oxide-red.

The patina will continue for another decade before it settles into a steady green-grey. The seams are intact, the fasteners show no creep, and the only maintenance so far has been clearing leaf litter from the gutters.

The roof is shared across the row of seven houses, which spreads the cost and keeps the silhouette of the row coherent as it ages.
